Bangladesh Social Development Services (BSDS) has been involved in the movement for land reform and development . We stand for revolutionary change in land ownership, administration and use. Land must To managed land with the aim of ensuring the welfare of the majority of the population and in an ecologically sustainable way BSDS fights for social justice for the landless.

BSDS has been working to the landless poor to establish their rights over land resources. These program is continued on the purpose that the landless men and women of BSDS programme area improve their livelihoods, become socially and politically empowered, and are able effectively to pressure government, political and other elites to address the needs and rights of poor men and women.

BSDS puts great emphasis on land and agriculture development activities to establish land rights of the poor on khas land and increasing agriculture production in a sustainable way. BSDS has been highly successful in obtaining substantial amount of khas land and distributing the same among their group members.

Implemented Activities of the program

Group Formation

BSDS group formation is seen in the landless people’s unity and solidarity. Organisational capacity of the landless people has developed.

Group Saving

As per the group formation policy each members save 5 taka in each week in their own group’s bank account. The members could use their little saving in income generating activities.

Seminar and Mass Rally

On land right issue BSDS organizes seminars, mass rally regularly for mass awareness development.

Training

BSDS is providing trainings to group members to make them aware about their rights, existing social system, social discriminations, and exploitation repression by influential and learn to confront it and also learnt the existing land laws, records and other papers related to land settlement as well as land administration. They have learnt the policy and procedures of leasing of khas resources (government owned land and water bodies). As a result, they have become united and active against all form of exploitation and oppression.. The leadership trainings help the group leaders to became more efficient in group management and lead to the issue based movement. They are now more capable of solving problems related to group management as well as different issue based movements. Capable and alternative leadership has been created in the community.

Legal Aid Support

BSDS provides legal support to the landless poor members in order to face different legal problems to establish their rights.

Lobbying and Advocacy

Lobbying and advocacy is an ongoing process under the working methodology of the organisations. The staffs and the members keep constant liaison and relation with different government offices, organisations and sectoral people of the society.
